50 Undergrads Offered TAR Scholarship

50 undergraduate students have been offered the Tunku Abdul Rahman (TAR) Foundation scholarship this year. They are currently pursuing degrees in various tertiary institutions across the country.

The scholarship will cover the tuition fees, living allowance amounting to RM1,000 per month and book allowance of RM500 for every academic semester.

Those studying in Peninsular Malaysia who come from Sabah and Sarawak will also be entitled to airfare tickets on yearly basis.

The Tunku Abdul Rahman Foundation was first conceived in 1966 with the appointment of Tan Sri Khir Johari as its first chairman. The foundation changes ownership a few times before landed under the purview of the Ministry of Higher Education, which remains until today.

Since 2006, the foundation has been giving out scholarship, in place of education loans it extended before. The foundation office is now based in the Ministry’s office in Putrajaya.

The Tunku Abdul Rahman Foundation scholarship is offered on annual basis to students who are completing their degree in public or private universities within Malaysia.

The 50 recipients were selected from more than 800 applications received. Out of the 800 odd applications, 500 meet the initial criteria, and 100 were shortlisted to attend a camp. The final selection of candidates was done through interview.
