23,471 teachers in the country’s schools, as well as in Aminuddin Baki Institute, Teachers Education Institute and matriculation colleges are up for promotions by the Ministry of Education.
Among the vacancies available are school principals (DG52), vice principals (DG48 and DG44), academic teachers and co-curriculum teachers (DG52, DG48 and DG44). All the candidates for the promotion will have to take and pass the PTK (Penilaian Tahap Kecekapan) test.
For promotion from DG41 to DG44, as prerequisite, the teachers must have served at least 5 years.
Additionally, the PPD (Pegawai Pendidikan Daerah) officers with the Ministry will also be promoted from DG48 to DG52 and DG54 accordingly, while offices and branches throughout the country, including in Sabah and Sarawak, will be uniformly restructured.
Teachers attached with cluster schools are not subject to this round of promotion. However, the NUTP (the National Union of Teaching Profession) has requested the Ministry of Education to consider promoting teachers in cluster schools. The cluster schools are those that implement the concept of skill-based and not exam-oriented. Part of the characteristic of cluster schools is evaluating students through general abilities and achievements, and not merely academic credentials.
Together with the promotion, the six form education (STPM) will also undergo a re-branding exercise, where the traditional educational structure will be replaced with the university system.
