4,000 job offers through SPIKE Graduate Program

One of the never ending nightmares faced by the employers in Malaysia is to recruit good graduates fresh from the universities. Often time, a good intention of giving opportunity to fresh graduates are met with disappointments. Employers got a shock of their life when discovering how poor the graduates are when it comes to communication and personal skills. They found that graduates lack the wisdom and maturity to enter the competitive job market.
There goes the chances for those graduating students.
But all is not over because Alam Teknokrat, or better known as SKALI, comes to your rescue. SKALI (Alam Teknokrat Sdn Bhd) is a company that focuses on the development of e-commerce or e-businesses. They set up and implement integral e-business infrastructure, solutions and services. SKALI’s core business includes internet data center operations, web applications and e-consultancy. The company is co-founded and CEO-ed by Tengku Farith Rithauddeen, who once featured in Asiaweek’s 25 Young Wired and Rich list.
SKALI was recently awarded a 6-year old project worth RM258 millions to maintain and upgrade over 102 state government and 471 federal government websites. Owing to the fact that it is a big job and they are definitely under staffed to handle the whole project (also that with big money comes big responsibility), SKALI made a move to announce a program called SPIKE that will see as many as 4000 jobs to be filled by graduates, especially those who are still unemployed. (From the latest update it looks like they are also accepting experienced professionals too).
SPIKE stands for Skali Pioneers and Innovators in the Knowledge Economy. It is a program designed to nurture and develop specialized ICT entrepreneurs by enhancing the skills of graduates and working professionals.
According the SPIKE’s website:
“SPIKE aims to train and prepare students with the relevant and proper skill sets in the areas of Technology, Business and Multimedia Applications, both in theory and practical while preparing them to be a viable and dynamic ICT Technopreneur who is able to compete globally.”
The trainees will undergo practical training in multimedia and business, programming, IT networking systems, and project management. During the first three months, the trainees will be paid an allowance of RM500 per month. Once they reach apprentice stage, they will receive salaries of between RM1,200 and RM4,000, depending on their level of skill and competency. The training will be conducted at MPS support centres in Selangor, Terengganu, Kedah, Pahang, Johor and Perak, and has already started with a group of 300 graduates.
A piece of advice. Before you apply for the program, you must know that SKALI’s move to provide jobs are merely a short term solution to the shortage of job opportunities for graduates. At the end of the day, they would expect some of the successful apprentices to set up their own IT company, and their company will get an outsource contract from SKALI, or better yet if they can survive on your own. So apply with not only meeting end’s meet in mind, but with a vision to create and drive your own business and organization.
