58 Is The New Retirement Age
By Zul • May 11th, 2008 • Category: All Things Malaysia •
58 years old is now the new retirement age for the employees in publics service, extended 2 years from the current 56. The change will take effect beginning on 1 July 2008.
The new regulation also will give option for those who have reached 56 years old to opt for retirement, or continue until 58. While 58 is 2 years short from the earlier 60 demanded by Cuepacs (Kesatuan Pekerja Pekerja Dalam Perkhidmatan Awam), Cuepacs has expressed satisfaction over the decision.
On another note, the efficiency level assessment or better known as PTK (Penilaian Tahap kecekapan) will not be totally abolished, but only the written test for Grade 1 to Grade 16 officers will be discontinued. The PTK test will undergo a comprehensive review and improvement will be made as to reflect the real quality of the civil servants.
Also, effective on 1 January 2009, the pension calculation for its recipients would be based on maximum 30 years of service, compared to the current 25 years.
According to Pak Lah, the decision for the government to raise the new retirement age would not affect the employment opportunities for fresh graduates. Is that so Mr PM?
