BioCity Malacca to Provide 5,000 Jobs

5,000 job opportunities for skilled workers and professionals are expected to be made available upon the completion of Bio-City in Melaka, which is expected to be in 2013. Job seekers and employees around Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Johor and Kuala Lumpur are set to benefit from the realization of the project.
The BioCity proposal is aimed at nurturing the life science industry, especially in the pharmaceutical and medical products.
Aspiring researchers and scientists can also look for opportunities in the proposed RM1.5 billion project, where as many as 60 technology companies of diverse industry and specialization will be operating. A land of about 100 hectare in size in Kota Cemerlang, Air Keroh has been identified as the location site for the city.
The BioCity project will be spearheaded by Actics Biologics Malaysia, a joint venture between the US-based corporation Actics Biologics Incorporated, Indian-based Actics Biologics Pvt Ltd and a number of Malaysian investors. Actics will also establish a platform of partnership between scientists, entrepreneurs and venture capitalists.
The facilities to be built include a research and development (R&D) center, biotechnology production center, a life science institute, housing & accommodation, as well as sports center. The development of licensed technology platforms such as gene therapy and vaccines will also be given priority.
