The Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) or Lembaga Jurutera was established in 1972, acting as a statutory body constituted under the Registration of Engineers Act 1967 and is responsible to regulate the professional conduct and practice of registered Professional Engineers. Another role of BEM, which is considered important by many others, is in its function overseeing the accreditation of engineers. This is important for you and other aspiring engineers in ensuring that your engineering qualification obtained upon graduation are recognized to be practiced in the public or private sector.
The body also conducts evaluation and assessment on candidates applying to register as Graduate Engineers, Professional Engineers and Engineering Consultancy Practices. The Board is under the directive of and responsibility of the Minister of Works, with the Board Members appointed by the Minister.
Through the Engineering Accreditation Council (EAC. EAC is the coordinating body on accreditation which represents the Board of Engineers Malaysia - BEM, Lembaga Akreditasi Negara - LAN and Jabatan Perkhidmatan Awam - JPA), BEM assesses and accredits engineering qualifications offered by the institution of higher learning.
The accreditation team will draw a series of assessment methodology, which include visiting the higher institution and conducting audit on the facilities provided by the institution. The team may also conduct discussion and dialogue with the academic staff, support staff and the students. There are 2 types of accreditation given by BEM - conditional accreditation and full accreditation.
Applying as Professional Engineers with Board of Engineers Malaysia
Candidates wishing to apply for registration as Professional Engineers can do so through BEM by following these steps
- Register as a Graduate Engineer with BEM
- Satisfy the training requirements of BEM
- Pass the Professional Assessment Examination (PAE) of BEM
- Been residing in Malaysia for a period of not less than 6 months immediately prior to application

i would like to know ,with qualification in diploma marine engineering and certificate of competency as class 2 coastal, and qualified engineer in palm oil mills with certificate in steam boilers as engineer.can i register in BEM. pls guide me.tq

i’m currently worked at one of the biggest port (WESTPORT) as engineer with politeknik diploma. if i want to get register with BEM/IEM what kind of university/instituion/kolej will recognize or accept by BEM. could i get the list because i m curently finding for place to do my degree. pls help.i m really need the advice.
