Cheng & Co. is set to be the largest accounting firm in Malaysia.

Cheng & Co may be a relatively unknown company (at least, when compared to the Big 4 accounting firms), but the company is now making a big wave in the accounting and finance industry.

In fact, they are claiming to become the largest accounting firm in Malaysia when they complete their 11th successive merger soon. The company’s they are acquiring is Terengganu based firm, Su Lim & Associates. Prior to this acquisition, it has also acquired 5 other companies.

Cheng & Co was established in 1993 by two friends, Dr. Paul Cheng Chai Liou and Mr. Chua Hock Hoo and since then has grown mainly through mergers and acquisition exercises. The company started with only three junior audit executives, in addition to the two founders. The company now operates through a wide network of branches locally (Melaka, Batu Pahat, Ipoh, Johor Bahru and Terengganu) and all the way to Singapore, China, Hong Kong and Australia.

From only three staff, currently, some 150 employees are currently working with the accounting firm. Out of these 150, more than 20 are qualified chartered accountants. Cheng & Co. offers audit, tax, secretarial services and other range of finance related consultations.
