Cuepacs, the union body of the government servants, wants a one month bonus this year, and is quite optimistic their demand would be fulfilled.
The body hopes some part of the bonus would be given as early as before the Hari Raya, and the remaining on year end. The next 1 or 2 week will be crucial to see if their demand would be fulfilled.
The one month bonus payout, which affects about 1.2 million employees in various government offices is estimated to cost some RM500 million.
Cuepacs is known for its fierce stand in fighting for the welfare of the government civil servants, with an impressive list of achievements dating back since 1995. Some of their demands met before include the salary increase and restructuring (a few times), gratuity allowances, housing incentives, maternity leave period (from 44 days to 60 days), introduction of Cost of Living Allowances (COLA), 5-day week implementation and improvement on the PTK examination system.
