Cuepacs Wants RM500 COLA Allowance

Cuepacs has tabled another demand for the government to pay an RM500 monthly COLA allowance (Cost of Living Allowance) to more than 1.5 million civil servants employed with the government.

According to the body, the RM500 should be standardized for all employees regardless of the work location.

At the moment, the amount of COLA allowance ranges between RM100 and RM300 where those in the urban areas get paid RM300 while RM100 is entitled for employees in the suburb and rural areas.

“Every civil servant, including those in the rural areas, pays the same fuel price. The government should distribute wealth and salary allowance equally for every one”, Cuepacs President Omar Osman told the news.

In addition to the new demand, the union body is also rejecting the government proposal to pay the salary of the civil servants twice per month. Cuepacs is in the opinion that the move will worsen the economic situation of the employees.
