Diploma Course To Produce More Paramedics
By Zul • Aug 11th, 2008 • Category: All Things Malaysia •
Currently, there are about 100 paramedics in Malaysia, a small number indeed.
Realizing the shortage, St John Ambulance of Malaysia (SJAM) and the Open University (OUM) will be collaborating to provide Diploma in Pre-Hospital course to generate more interest among the public and help producing more local paramedics.
Such course is the first to be introduced in the country, packaged together with online access facilities that allow the students to learn the syllabus from the comfort of their home.
The university will also conduct practical and hands-on training to expose the students with the realm of the life in emergency.
The syllabus will be devised and structured by St John Ambulance and Open University, and will be subject to approval from the Ministry of Health and the National Accreditation Board.
Career in paramedic requires a person to provide pre-hospital medical service, including treating emergency and trauma cases, as well on-the-scene treatment. A paramedic’s job is making sure patients are stabilized before sent to the hospital for further treatment.
