Going for your first job interview?
This is definitely how you are supposed to look like.
By wearing proper dressing, you can increase your chances of being hired.
While we always say “never judge a book by its cover”, in reality, first impression is very important. Once you stepped into the room, your interviewer will scan you from head to toe.
You need to impress your interviewer at first sight. Then, you can show your talents. You can present your resume and the best cover letter but without a proper image, you won’t be able to land any job you desire. No matter how smart you can be, your dressing can ruin everything.
These days, people are being flexible. Some companies have no dress code. However, no matter what, you should be prepared for every possibility. Therefore, it is safe to wear formal clothing for interviews. Once you are hired, you can loosen up a bit.
Important rules to remember:
- no stained clothes
- no jeans (or torn jeans)
- no heavy make-up
- no strong perfume
- no tattoos (cover up if you have any)
- no slippers
- keep everything simple
Good luck with your job interviews!

What about hair color? Somebody pointed out in an online forum recently that hair dyeing esp the non-conventional colors may not be such a good idea if you are attending interviews at management firms such as the Big 4.

Well it depends on the colours and how you dye your hair (some people prefer to have many colours – kind of like rainbow hair). You can still dye your hair and look professional. Ask your hair stylist.

I’ve seen professionals (including those in the corporate world) dyeing their hair and still look professional. I guess one must know the line between moderation and over-doing. One day, when we’re too good at our job, we can probably dye our hair to whatever color we want and still get respect. Look at Dr Pornthip (!).
