27 million!
That is the estimated figure of people living in US who work on flexible schedules.
Call them lucky, but this trend seems to be rising in US and other parts of the world. One important question is when exactly Malaysia will catch up with this trend?
I am sure Malaysians would love to work on a flexible schedule (meaning you get to choose your own working hours).
There are many advantages when you work a flexible schedule.
One thing for sure, working mothers would be happy to work with flexible working hours. This is because they have to care for their kids. They get to spend more time with their kids and even play with them before they go to bed.
Besides, if you work flexible hours, you get to save more money. Since you are able to care for your own kids, you don’t need to spend money on child care services (i.e. nursery).
How flexible work schedule works?
Example:
Miss Lee works as a Business Analyst and she works from 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. On Fridays, she works from 6:00 a.m. to 10.00 a.m. (shortened working hours) which gives her more time to spend with her family.
Why this working hour works for Miss Lee?
Miss Lee is more productive in the morning so she goes to work early in the morning. In the evening, she will be home to cook, clean the house and even play with her kids.
If you want to get ahead in Malaysia (in terms of working on flexible work schedule), you might want to discuss with your boss about the advantages and maybe, you will get the chance to pick your own flexible working hours (you will still have to work for 8 hours but at your own time).
Give it a try!
Otherwise, you will have to work with a fixed schedule for a long time.
