HP Building Cyberjaya Campus

Hewlett Packard (HP) is building a new campus in Cyberjaya in a move to strengthen its already-strongpresence in Malaysia.

With expected completion in 2010 (2 years time), the new center will be able to generate up to 4,000 new job opportunities for both local and foreign workers, mainly those in information technology field within a space of 10 years.

The workforce integration will be jointly developed with the Multimedia Development Corporation (MDec) in an effort to set a world class standard for the information backbone and structure in Malaysia.

With 600,000 square feet in size, it will also be the single largest IT center located in Malaysia’s very own cyber city, as well as creating a record for the largest investment by a multinational company in the country. The company will combine multiple functions in the center including a development center, data center, outsourcing platform, professional services and customer call center support to cater for its worldwide business customers. The development center is an addition to HP’s existing string of network centers located in India, China, Mexico and Costa Rica.

Hewlett Packard is currently the largest computer maker in the world, taking over from former leader Dell a few years back. It has been operating in Malaysia for more than 30 years ago, boasted by office presence in Kuala Lumpur, Penang and its services center nationwide.

While HP continues its commitment to make Malaysia one of its key operation centers, the latter (Dell), however is facing uncertainties with its factories in Penang now employing a few thousand people may possibly be put up for sale.
