Is Your Job Going Nowhere?

Have you ever felt that your job is not going anywhere? Do you really need to know if your job is NOT going to take you anywhere. Well beware of the signs….i know coz I’ve worked a couple of jobs and usually, the signs are the same. Here are some tips for you to identify if your job is indeed a DEAD END!

1) You are in the same position for more than 3 years. The normal trend for upgrade or promotion is every 2 to 3 years once. So if you are stuck in this position for some time now then you better start waking up!

2) What’s your pay level now and how is your increment amount for all these years? Listen, if you pay has not increased at all or your increment is very little as compared to your collegues, then it is definitely a dead end road.

Tips: don’t be afraid to ask for pay raise. Employer except their employees to ask for better salary so do not hesitate to ask if you feel that you deserve it. Do not ask for an outrageous raise in pay. Before you ask for a promotion, be sure you really want more responsibility.

Do not let this idea of a dead-end job negatively impact your work product. Be sure to continue to present a positive attitude in front of your supervisors, volunteer to work late or cover someone else’s shift in an emergency and so forth. You need to be a model employee, someone the company needs to keep happy, someone who is a great asset to the company. Keep in mind that your company is in business to make a profit. That profit provides you, and others, with jobs. The more you help increase profits, the more valuable you are to the company.

The last option you have, when looking to rid yourself of a dead-end job, is seeking employment elsewhere. If you have a family to support or bills that must be paid, you may only want to use seeking employment elsewhere as a last resort, but it is still a step that you may want to examine.
