Job Scams in JobsMalaysia Portal

Job Scams are roaming everywhere, and now they have expanded their territory, including the latest act of disgust – infiltrating JobsMalaysia, the portal set up by the Ministry of Human Resources.

The ministry has detected a number of job scam operators after receiving hundreds of complaints involving job seekers who were made to pay up to RM500 to register with some ‘recruitment agency’. In Sabah alone, more than 100 complaints have been reported to the Sabah Manpower Department (Jabatan Tenaga Kerja). About 10 of them paid RM500 without asking too much question.

There are also inter-country scams which advertised job vacancies in the neighboring countries such as Singapore and in return of the service connecting with employers, the job seekers will need to pay the necessary fees to process their application and obtain their work authorization and permit.

To convince the job seekers, the slick scammers have been using the name of some government agencies, disguising themselves as the appointed agents to lure those who are on the look for positions in the government agencies and bodies.

The ministry is now preparing to go after the scammers, with legal actions and blacklisting waiting in the pipeline.

Job scam is not new in Malaysia. While much has been covered in the news and presses, more and more job seekers keep falling prey to the culprits, often ended up poorer and frustrated. Worse, there is no job at hand.
