Kuala Lumpur Job Carnival, UTM Semarak, 1-2 Sept 2007

Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Jalan Semarak campus is organizing the Kuala Lumpur Job Carnival (Karnival Pekerjaan) which will be held on 1 and 2 September 2007.

This is part of the effort by the Ministry of Human Resources (Jabatan Tenaga Kerja) and the Electronic Labor Exchange (ELX) to provide better access to job opportunities for Malaysian job seekers. If you are going there using public transport, the easiest way is to use the Putra LRT and stop at Damai station. From there, take taxi or bus. And please, please don’t forget to bring the most updated copies of your resume and the relevant copies of certificates if you intend to apply for jobs.

The Jalan Semarak Campus is the secondary to their main campus in Skudai, Johor Bahru. But I believe few would know that The Semarak Campus is where the UTM was originally born. It all started way back before the Malaysia independence, when a technical school was established in Jalan Tun Sambanthan, Kuala Lumpur and then upgraded to a technical college. Later, a new technical college was built in the current UTM Jalan Semarak Campus.

Few years before the independence, the college started offering degree courses for engineering fields that include Civil Engineering, Electric Engineering, Architecture, Land Surveying, Town Planning and Quantity Survey. The students undertook exams overseen by The Institution of Civil Engineers and Mechanical Engineers in the United Kingdom. The university status was awarded on 1967 and the institution was named Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, UTM on 1975.

The UTM Skudai was constructed on the early 1980s and the it became the official UTM campus starting 1988. Most of the faculties have been transferred to Skudai since.

As for the job carnival event, it comes about 1 month after the National Job Carnival (Karnival Kerjaya Kebangsaan) which was held at UPM on July 2007. It was quite a big event considering that it was attended by many major employers including Petronas, Celcom, Ambank, Carreffour, Prudential and many others. I hope those looking for job opportunities will take the time to visit the fair.

  1. The subject whether a job carnival or career fair is great or not is subjective, and it largely depends on our end goal.

For example, if the carnival is large and attended by hugely popular companies, people will say it is a great carnival. But if we go there and come back knowing nothing new, no new acquaintances and no employer business cards, then it is not great for you.

  2. I am now currently working in Dubai ( UAE ) as a operation cordinator. I am seeking for a job in Kuala Lumpur as i am a local national of Malaysia cause it will be more great working in own country. Please let me know if there is any chances at my mail id as below
