Malaysia is not known to be the leader in automotive and car manufacturing field but some people can’t just stop dreaming big.
DRB-Hicom, a local automotive corporation, announced today that it will produce its own hybrid electric car in about 3 years time, 2012, in line with the global and national effort to produce eco-friendly cars. It is learnt that the company is now having some serious discussions with three possible partners and will ink the deal in a few months time. They did not name three prospects, only to inform that one of them is their existing JV partner.
A hybrid car is powered up by two or more power sources, which could be in the form of electric, hydrogen, compressed air, wind, solar, waste heat and so on and is predicted to improve fuel efficiency while at the same time contributed less to pollution. Major automotive makers have began constructing and showing off their hybrid car prototypes and are now in the running to become the first to produce the cars commercially.
DRB-Hicom is a main distributor for a series of foreign car brands such as Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Honda, Mitsubishi and Suzuki, as well as local including Proton and Modenas. Apart from distributing, the company also assembles some of the vehicles in the plants.
Let’s just hope this would be something for real, and would not turn into a Proton-type so-callsed ‘success’.
