The Malaysia government is on the move to unveil the so-called 20 top schools in the country, which will happen in “weeks”, Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced yesterday in Sabah.
The top schools have been rated according to a number of specified criteria and parameters, and are selected out thousands of schools countrywide. However, as for now, the exact details of the criteria are yet to be shared. A number of cluster and full boarding schools are expected to dominate the list.
Some of the familiar names ripe for plucking in the best secondary school category may include Sekolah Sultan Alam Shah (SAS), Sekolah Sri Putri (SSP), Malay College Kuala Kangsar (MCKK), Kolej Tunku Kurshiah (KTK), Sekolah Tun Fatimah (STF) and a number of prominent MRSMs (Maktab Rendah Sains Mara) such as MRSM Taiping, MRSM Pengkalan Chepa and MRSM Tun Ghafar Baba (formerly MRSM Jasin). All the three MRSMs mentioned have been induced into the Special Education Program, a title accorded to those which consistently attained distinctively outstanding academic quality.
The schools listed above are well known to produce excellent all rounded students who went on to establish successful careers in a myriad of professions including doctors, lawyers, engineers, businessmen and politicians. Some are holding key leadership positions in multinational, public listed and GLC corporations, earning top salaries.
And if Muhyiddin is true to his words, there will be some surprises in the list, where a few schools which are not classified as ‘premier’ or ‘elite’ beat the odd and make the list of Malaysia’s top schools. Let’s wait and see.
