The apprentice program offered by Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has been a roaring success. The program, which commenced in 2003, has recently produced its third batch of young automotive and mechatronics apprentices.

It was set up with the aim to nurture and produce talented and skilled technicians which will rise to meet the demand of the automotive industry.

The latest group, consisting of about 30 students who graduated from the Mercedes-Benz apprentice program were honored in a graduation ceremony held a few weeks back in Holiday Villa hotel in Subang, Selangor. Each was awarded a certificate equivalent to a Level 3 Malaysia Skills Certificate by the Department of Skills Development, Human Resource Ministry.

The event was fully sponsored by Mercedes.

In the apprentice program, both elements of academic and practical training are given equal emphasis, with introduction to technical modules such as basic engineering, advanced automotive engineering, product training and troubleshooting as well as others. Students are also exposed with the distinguished characteristics and components in both passenger cars and commercial vehicles.

During the program, the students are also entitled for monthly allowances, and upon successful completion of the program, they will be offered a permanent employment opportunity with dealers of Mercedes-Benz around the country.
