Michelin Star for Malaysian-Owned Restaurant

The Star reported that a Malaysian-owned restaurant based in London, United Kingdom has been awarded with the coveted Michelin Star award, the highest honor in the restaurant business.

It is believed to be the first restaurant owned by a Malaysian to have been given the award.

The restaurant, called Kai Mayfair, was established by Bernard Yeoh in 1993, offering a broad range of Chinese food specialties. Located in South Audley Street, it is the only restaurant in London accorded with the Star this year.

Kai Mayfair is well-known for its soup, Buddha Jumps Over The Wall, which costs a staggering £108 (RM606) per bowl. Most likely, it is the world’s most expensive soup ever sold in a restaurant.

For every owner of fine dining cuisine restaurant, a Michelin Star award is the highest accomplishment one can get, symbolizing outstanding quality of food, value, cleanliness and customer service delivery. The restaurant also gets to be listed in the annually published Le Guide Michelin (The Michelin Guide), the oldest and most popular restaurant guide in the world.

For years, the restaurant has been given rave reviews by customers and the media. Recently, Kai Mayfair was also named as the Best Chinese Restaurant by Harden’s London Restaurant Guide edition 2009, as voted by customers.
