People above 50 years old still can work. The key is to find companies that offer positions for elderly people. Who says that being old is non-productive? These days, more and more people above 50 years old are looking for jobs (usually part time jobs). This is because they have a lot of free time and they want to earn some extra money for their own use.

Companies should look into providing training and offering special positions for elderly people so that they can be productive as well. Offering part time positions would be excellent as they can work with a flexible working hours.

This is a normal phenomena in US and other European countries. In fact, according to a statistic in US, they expect to have 21% of elderly people in the work force by 2014. Companies in US are realising that elderly people might contribute more to the companies and help them save a lot of costs.

How do you look for a job if you are above 50 years old?

Learn more about the recruitment’s policy. Find out whether companies hire elderly people for certain positions. While you are hunting for a job, you might as well ask about advancement in the company and the type of training that is provided. Getting consultation from a recruiting company is not a bad idea considering that they know better and you don’t have to run all over the places to learn more about the working opportunities for elderly people.

You should be aware of the company’s benefit as well whether you will be getting annual leaves and other benefit that is applicable. Finally, research about the company in details. Find out about the reputation. Image is very important, even for an employer.
