No Bonus for Singapore Civil Servants

Same like their Malaysian counterparts, Singapore civil servants will unfortunately not be getting other year-end bonuses this year. Nevertheless, the 60,000 over of them will still receive the regular, full 13 month salary (akin to 1 month contractual bonus) as stipulated in their agreement.

There might also be additional good news as the government is preparing to a one-off payment of one quarter month’s pay, which will still be subject to a cap limit of S$750. If that happens, they can breathe some sigh of relieve, and perhaps be a little bit more grateful for being much better off financially compared to their neighbor. After all, the country pays one of the highest paid salaries to their top civil servants in the world at the moment.

This one-off supplementary pay is to acknowledge the workers’ contribution while at the same time sending a message that it’s not yet the best time financially for the ruling government.

The situation is in stark contrast compared to two years ago when the workers took home an average of 3 months of salary bonus. Back then, the economy was in vibrant mode, growing up to 7.5%. As for today, the country is expected to settle with a lowly 2.5%, dipping a further 2% from its previous figure.
