Part Time or Full Time

Some people prefer part time jobs. Others prefer full time jobs. One would say that having a full time job will ensure financial stability, whereas part time job is rather risky. Then again, someone else might think that part time job is fun and flexible. You get to work when you want to work, and off whenever you like.

Examples of part time jobs:

  • Fast food restaurant’s part time staff
  • Freelance writing / designing
  • Tour guide

Full time jobs?

  • Admin staff / clerk / purchasing clerk / account clerk
  • Managers and Executives

How one decide to work part time / full time?

This is a tough question. Only you have the answer. You might want to work part time because you are still studying. Working full time might be suitable for those who have family (wife, kids…).

As we know part time jobs have flexible working hours as well whereas full time jobs have fixed working hours. Are you the type who work 9 to 5 or flexible hours?

2 part time jobs or one full time job?

How many jobs can you handle? Do you multitask?

I, for sure can multitask easily (this is what I do everyday but that’s a whole different story).

I have known someone who has a full time job and a part time job. He is married and has a baby.

He said, “by having a part time job, I can add more income to my existing income (fixed) to support the family”. The situation is that he can’t support his family with just one full time job.

Therefore, a part time job is the only way out. He has to struggle with a full time job from 8 to 5 and rush to his part time job from 6 to midnight.

There are more and more people having the same problem as this friend of mine.

What about you? Time to do some thinking. Perhaps it is time for a change?

Happy New Year 2010!
