RM8000 Fine For Blogging about Ex-Employer

A former employee of EON Bank Berhad has to pay heavy price for posting indecent blog title and comments which were directed at his former employer, Bernama reported. The Sessions Court fined Seah Boon Khim, 26, RM8,000 for the offence.

Seah targeted the offensive blog posting to the Department Head of Internal Audit for Eon Bank, Ho Kong Chan.

But things could have turn worse for him, as the maximum penalty carried out by the offence were fine up to RM50,000 or jail up to one year or both. Seah was charged under the Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. He agreed to pay.

Seah did the posting on his blog page hosted at Xanga.com. He has since apologized and completely removed his page.
