German Scholarship for Sarawakians

The Sarawak state government has tied collaboration with Germany that will see the latter offering scholarship to eligible Sarawakians to pursue technical courses and programs abroad.

The understanding was achieved to produce more competent technical personnel who will be able to meet the human resources need for the upcoming SCORE (Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy) project.

4 students will be selected in the initial stage, with more scholarship opportunities to be offered beginning next year as the project begins to pick up speed. Selected applicants will be enrolled into German language program before he or she can gain acceptance into a university based in German.

SCORE (Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy) is one of the five mega infrastructure projects to be implemented under the Malaysia 9th Plan (RMK9), with the other four being the NCER (Northern Corridor Economic Region), ECER (East Coast Economic Region), Iskandar Malaysia and SDC (Sabah Development Corridor).

SCORE project stretches some 300km of distance, spanning from the coast of Tanjung Manis in Sarikei and ends in Similajau (Bintulu). SCORE is expected to become a major driver for Sarawak, and is seen as a key stimulus in the effort to transform the state into a fully developed region by the year 2020.
