The Intel Scholarship
By Zul • Aug 20th, 2007 • Category: Scholarship •
Intel Malaysia is opening an opportunity for eligible candidates to apply for scholarship who are currently pursuing full time student in a local university in a selected group of engineering courses (both undergraduates and postgraduates). The scholarships are valued at RM10,000 per year for undergraduate courses and RM13,000 per year for postgraduate courses. This is part of the give-back-to-the-society thingy, and Intel is not the first company which is doing this. They also get some tax break.
The application has been open for quite a while, but they’re still expecting more candidates to apply. They also put up a half page of advert in last Saturday’s The Star.
You must, at the moment not be holding any scholarship or receiving any funds or loans (e.g. The Star Education Fund, PTPTN loan, JPA, MARA and so on). And the courses available for this scholarship are:
- Electrical & Electronic Engineering
- Computer Engineering
- Telecommunication Engineering
Additionally, you need to have good academic results, with a minimum of A2 for all subjects (which must include English, Mathematics and all Science subjects), or
STPM with grade A for all subjects, or
Matriculation with CGPA of 3.5 and above, or
For university undergraduates, min accumulated CGPA of 3.5.
Clearly, they want intelligent people.
If you are one of these intelligent people, you can send your application by sending your resume to the email address grp_Intel_Scholarship@intel.com before 15 September 2007. The shortlisting process takes about 2-3 months and successful candidates will be interviewed between October to November 2007. The successful candidates also get a priority in Industrial Training/Internship with Intel.
While Intel is seen as a company of choice, some certain people who used to work with Intel are expressing their dissatisfaction towards the company. Some of them went to the extend of creating a website and put up every reason possible why you should think twice before accepting a job offer from Intel. One such example is Face Intel website, created by an anonymous who claimed to have worked with them. You can look up and read, but always keep an open mind when reading it. You make your own choice on how to take it.
Some piece of advice. If you are working in a multinational company, don’t expect to be working from 9 to 5. Don’t expect to get bonus when your work performance is below par. Don’t be surprised to be handed warning letter for under performing.
Also don’t expect politic is non-existent.
