UPSR, PMR to be Abolished?

It seems the Deputy Prime Minister, who is also the Minister of Education, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, is toying with the idea to completely abolish UPSR and PMR examinations in school.

According to him, the current system is rigid, too exam oriented and failed to provide a holistic education to the students. In other word, Malaysia education is in need of a revamp and a restructuring. Even if they are to be retained, there is this possibility that they will be made as school-based assessments and not as public examinations.

But final say is yet to come and the ministry would look into the feedback from the public, the education specialists and other parties before making the final decision. For sure, it won’t come too soon. There have been a few parties who are in support of the idea which include the Gabungan Pelajar Melayu Semenanjung (GPMS).

Are you agreeable to this idea of abolishing both UPSR & PMR? This is the move that would certainly raise some eye browses and draw a mixed plethora of reactions.

I think its a good idea to abolish the exams as it brings too much tension to the students and teachers. A better idea is to use school based exams, and not just through exams, but also in behavior and disciplin.
